How about laminating these worksheets and let groups of students work on them to create a poster with a copy of the picture in the middle and their answers written around the edge? Then ask each group to present their findings. This could result in a good class discussion… Now, are tomatoes actually a vegetable or a fruit? Why can or can’t bananas grow where you live? This is a logic puzzle activity for English Speakers or learners of English. Learners will enjoy working in pairs or groups to share their understanding of the clues and discuss their suggestions for allocating witches from different countries to the correct houses, working out their pets and favourite drinks as well as their hats. It’s all a bit ‘eek’, but good fun nonetheless. :) Logic puzzles not only help to exercise the brain, they also further the development of learners’ deduction skills, critical thinking ability and strategy skills. If working together, students will also use and grow their communication skills. Please bear in mind that like most logic puzzles, this one also contains a stage at the end, when students will need to try various final steps to establish the status which meets the requirements of each and every clue in the game. This puzzle is not impossible to resolve. There is a solution sheet for the teacher. I would therefore suggest you try this puzzle out first if you have time, as this will help you determine if and how to support your students with further clues without giving away the solution. Learners work through different aspects of cooking equipment used in the food technology lessons and real life kitchen situations, i.e. pots and pans, utensils for dishing out etc… This is an ideal resource for learners to complete in class, as revision, home learning, homework or cover work. Tasks include matching, discussing and explaining uses of items and skills learned. A recipe task asks learners to extract the ingredients, list the equipment needed and think about the skills applied.
